Your Team, Your Impact

As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will play a critical technical leadership role in bringing complex SERDES-based products from concept through volume production. You will be a hands-on architect and problem solver, owning embedded firmware that controls highly sophisticated DSP hardware, while leading and mentoring a team of experienced engineers.

This is a high-visibility role with direct impact on product success, silicon bring-up, customer delivery, and next-generation architecture decisions.

What You Will Do

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own the architecture, design, development, and testing of memory-constrained embedded C firmware controlling advanced SERDES DSP hardware
  • Serve as technical lead or project lead for a product, guiding a team of 2–8 engineers from requirements through volume production
  • Translate complex system and standards specifications (MSA, OIF, CMIS, customer specs) into clear firmware requirements, architecture documents, and sequence diagrams

Firmware & DSP Development

  • Develop embedded firmware running on RISC-V–based multi-core MCUs
  • Control and sequence proprietary DSP data paths through firmware state machines
  • Convert floating-point MATLAB DSP algorithms into fixed-point firmware implementations, ensuring functional equivalence
  • Design and debug robust firmware state machines, error handling, and recovery mechanisms

Debug, Validation & Bring-Up

  • Lead root-cause analysis of complex HW/SW issues on real silicon and lab hardware
  • Partner closely with hardware, systems, validation, and customer teams to resolve field and production issues
  • Support post-silicon bring-up, simulation environments, FPGA emulation, and system validation

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Plan software milestones, drive sprint execution, close tickets, and manage releases
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through challenging debug and design efforts
  • Influence hardware architects on next-generation design improvements based on field learnings

Travel

  • Occasional international travel (~3 weeks/year) to global Marvell sites (e.g., California, Italy, Vietnam)

Minimum Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CSE, ECE, or related technical field
  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in embedded C/C++ firmware development
  • Strong SERDES firmware development experience (required)
  • Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Software Team Lead on embedded products through customer volume production
  • Deep understanding of embedded SoCs and microcontroller architectures (RISC-V preferred)
  • Expertise with memory-mapped hardware, ISRs, GPIOs, bare-metal or RTOS environments
  • Excellent debugging skills on real hardware in lab environments
  • Proficiency with git, defect tracking tools (Jira or similar), and Linux-based workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience

  • SERDES, IM-DD or Coherent DSP, Ethernet/PCIe PHYs, Optical Module firmware
  • DSP fundamentals: BER, SNR, FFTs, histograms, sampling theory, Shannon limit
  • Mixed-signal control (analog + digital), PID / feedback loops
  • RTOS, device drivers, Linux kernel exposure
  • Python for tooling, automation, and customer-facing SDKs
  • Familiarity with Verilog, FPGA emulation, or digital verification flows
  • Experience using lab equipment: oscilloscopes, PNAs, ONTs, power supplies
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals from PHY through Data Link layer
