A leading specialty metals manufacturer is seeking a Production Planning Manager to lead its Dunkirk plant’s planning team and ensure efficient scheduling, inventory management, and throughput. In this role, you’ll apply continuous improvement and Theory of Constraints principles to reduce lead times, improve yields, and maximize profitability.

Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute strategic production plans and schedules to balance profitability, inventory, and customer demand.
  • Oversee inventory management, ensuring alignment with production schedules and minimizing excess while meeting service goals.
  • Collaborate with corporate planning teams to optimize melt planning and plant coordination.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects with operations, technical, and IT teams to improve yields, reduce costs, and streamline processes.
  • Implement business process improvements, including VBA tools and SharePoint automations, to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide hands-on support for tactical planning, material applications, and customer order status updates.
  • Partner cross-functionally with sales, operations, and technical departments to align production capacity with market demand.
  • Drive customer service improvements by reducing late orders and improving order transparency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the production planning team to foster accountability and excellence.


Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in production planning in a manufacturing environment (metals industry preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and capacity planning tools; VBA programming preferred.
  • Experience with SharePoint and Power Automate a plus.
  • Strong understanding of materials planning, master scheduling, and production control.
  • Deep knowledge of the Theory of Constraints and its application to production workflows.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
