Job Description

Job Title: Product Development Engineer

Location: Woburn, MA

Department: Engineering

Industry: Aerospace & Defense

Position Overview:

We are seeking a confident, hands-on Product Development Engineer to play a key role in designing and launching advanced aerospace components. This highly visible position demands a proactive, team-oriented engineer with strong manufacturing experience—particularly in brazing, welding, and CNC machining—who can lead projects from concept through production.

You will serve as a critical link between engineering design and manufacturing, helping to ensure products meet performance, cost, and quality targets while adhering to aerospace industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the conceptual design and development of new products from prototype through production.
  • Interpret and apply customer and industry specifications to engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Review and approve detailed drawing packages, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, GD&T standards, manufacturing methods, and cost considerations.
  • Serve as Product Support Engineer throughout the product lifecycle, providing ongoing technical guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes, including tooling, routing sheets, work instructions, and fixtures for machining, brazing, welding, and testing.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to implement cost-effective, high-quality processes aligned with customer specifications.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of new products through timely documentation and active support on the shop floor.
  • Conduct inspection data analysis (CMM reports, test data) and support quality processes including ECNs, DMRs, and MRB reviews.
  • Lead failure analysis investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective/preventive actions.
  • Develop cost estimates for new product quotations and lead or support cost reduction initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements by researching and implementing more efficient methods, tools, and workflows.
  • Actively lead or participate in multifunctional project teams and R&D initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, contributing to the development of the technical team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with direct involvement in new product introduction (NPI), product design, and hands-on manufacturing.
  • Strong, practical experience with machining, tooling, brazing, and GTAW (TIG) welded assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects with confidence and technical authority.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, collaborative approach.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and MRP systems (Oracle preferred).
  • Familiarity with military and aerospace standards, including ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.5, and AS9100.
  • Working knowledge of MRB processes, ECNs, and Six Sigma methodologies.

What We’re Looking For:

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on hands-on problem solving, takes ownership of their work, and brings confidence to technical discussions and team collaborations. A passive mindset will not succeed in this role—we need someone who can take initiative, drive projects, and contribute actively to both product development and production floor success.

Requirements & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with direct involvement in new product introduction (NPI), product design, and hands-on manufacturing. Strong, practical experience with machining, tooling, brazing, and GTAW (TIG) welded assemblies.
